Creative Communities for Children & Youth Symposium

In preparation for the launch of National Youth Arts Week, ANCY hosted a three-day symposium on Oct 14, 15 & 16, 2011.

The symposium was offered to all who are invested in expanding the long term growth of the arts sector for children and youth. Together with Harbourfront Centre and the Department of Canadian Heritage, the weekend was conceptualized around cultural planning, programming, best practices and creative communities for children and youth.

The event included workshops, arts practice, panels and discussions, as well as a keynote delivered by outstanding youth arts advocate, Lenine Bourke. Most importantly, weekend launched the inaugural National Youth Arts Week planned for May 2012.

We are inviting youth artists from across Canada to assist in the planning, promoting and launching of this week-long event. If you are a youth, an artist, a municipal representative, a cultural planner, part of an organization, or if you are simply interested in furthering the arts sector for children and youth, this event is for you.

The Creative Communities Symposium featured training workshops in areas such as facilitation, marketing and event planning, giving young leaders additional tools to take back home and plan activities for Youth Arts Week in their own communities.

As part of the three day symposium, professional youth artists gave live performances, bringing the arts to life and demonstrate the power of these experiences. Their performances and presentations from other young people involved in the arts combined to inspire other young people at the conference and to provide ideas for projects or initiatives they can start in their own communities.
